Celebrating Memories Creating Opportunities
YJC Principal1.png
Established in 1986, Yishun Junior College (YJC) is entering a new phase in its history with the recent announcement of the merger between Yishun Junior College and Innova Junior College (IJC).  The merged college which will be located at the site of the current Yishun Junior college will function as Yishun Innova Junior College (YIJC) from 2019.

JC2 students taking the ‘A’ level examination this year will graduate as students of YJC while JC1 students will be the pioneer cohort of the merged college and graduate as students of YIJC.  Our JC2 student leaders have been working closely with the student leaders of IJC to provide incoming students with a memorable orientation.  Scheduled programmes and activities will continue this year to provide all students with deep and meaningful learning experiences in both academic and non-academic areas.  We are working closely with IJC to value add to student learning by incorporating signature programmes from IJC into our own programmes.  These include the IJC Digital Literacies Programme and Malay Language Elective Programme (MLEP) which will complement our own signature programmes such as Science Talent Programme and Student Leadership Development Programme (the RaDiAL framework).

Students in YJC this year can look forward to an exciting array of events.  The biennial Celebrating Values Day will inculcate in our students an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset while deepening their financial literacy skills as they raise funds for deserving beneficiaries such as the Singapore Association for the Visually Handicapped and Sree Narayana Mission Home, long standing partners of the college.  We welcome friends and alumni to join us for Arts Fusion, an annual Performing Arts Showcase.  This year also marks the 30th Anniversary of the Tamil Pre-University Seminar organised by YJC with the support of our many partners.  We look forward to an exciting event this year.

We are very proud of our students, many of whom have performed exceptionally well for the GCE ‘A’ Levels. Some of them have returned to share the factors leading to their success with their juniors.  In surveys and conversations with students, it is particularly heartening that students acknowledge and appreciate the care and dedication shown by our teachers who are ever willing to go the extra mile to help our students achieve their aspirations.  Our staff is committed to doing its best to provide all students who choose to come to our college with a meaningful school experience that instils sound values and helps them perform well academically so that they can progress to the next level in their education journey equipped with the skills and competencies that will enable them to adapt and thrive in a constantly evolving landscape.  We are indeed very proud of the many achievements of our students be it in scientific research, sports or the aesthetics. They have displayed creativity, responsibility and trustworthiness in their many undertakings which include service to the school and community. Most of all, they are optimistic and cheerful, always willing to lend a helping hand to others.

We are excited about the merger with Innova Junior College and the many opportunities it affords us to adopt the best practices of both colleges.   The college has also undergone many enhancements and improvement works over the past few years including a new running track and refurbishment of various rooms, lecture theatres and seminar rooms and we look forward to further enhancements.  The rich heritage and memorable milestones of both colleges will be celebrated and students joining the merged college will learn the history and heritage of both colleges which will be exhibited in various spaces in the merged JC.

It has been a great privilege to have been posted to YJC in 2016.  This is my third year in the college and it has been a fulfilling experience working with the dedicated staff of the college to bring out the best in our students. We are deeply grateful to our many partners who provide our students with opportunities to enhance their cognitive and social skills.  Most of all, I would like to thank our College Advisory Committee for their support and many contributions.  I look forward to a bright year ahead as we welcome our new intake of JC1 students of the new merged JC for 2018.  We would also like to extend a warm welcome to all our JC2 parents to our college on Saturday 27 January 2018. We look forward to working closely with you especially this year when the students are taking the ‘A’ level examinations so that we can better support them in realising their aspirations.  Higher Institutes of Learning will also be present on the day to share the courses available at their respective universities.

Let’s make our college the home of infinite opportunities.
