Literature in English

Literature helps us to think – about ourselves, about others, and about the world. Our Literature programme at YJC is designed to provoke thought and encourage discovery through stimulating lessons and meaningful enrichment.

Literature in YJC

YJC offers Literature in English at both H1 and H2 levels. For the 2014-2015 intake, YJC will be offering:

Paper 1: Reading Literature Paper 3: The Individual & Society in Literature
H1 level (8811/01)
Format of Paper:
  • Section A: Unseen Poetry Analysis (single poem)
  • Section B: Prose text
  • Section C: Drama text
Set texts for Sections B and C are The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Playing for Times by Arthur Miller.
Not applicable.
H2 level (9748/01 & 9748/03)
Format of Paper:
  • Section A: Unseen Poetry Analysis (comparison of a pair of poems)
  • Section B: Prose text
  • Section C: Drama text
Set texts for Sections B and C are The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Playing for Times by Arthur Miller..
Format of Paper:
  • Section A: Unseen analysis (any genre)
  • Section B: Comparison of 2 texts
  • Section C: Discussion of 3rd text
Set texts for Paper 2 are The Tempest  by William Shakespeare,  Doctor Faustus (1604 A-text)  by Christopher Marlowe, and Selected Poems by Anderw Marvell.

There is no prerequisite for this subject. Whether you took Literature at the ‘O’ level or not, we warmly invite you to join us if you possess an inquisitive and open mind, proficiency in the English language, and a PASSION for thinking, reading and writing.
