Established in 1986, Yishun Junior College celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2016.
We are heartened by the many fond memories shared by our alumni of their experiences and the diverse opportunities afforded them to hone 21st Century Competencies and to develop their leadership skills. Our current students continue to accomplish much and we are proud of their many achievements be it in scientific research, sports or the aesthetics. They have displayed creativity, responsibility and trustworthiness in their many undertakings which include service to the school and community. Most of all, they are optimistic and cheerful, always willing to lend a helping hand to others.
Many of our students have done exceptionally well for the GCE ‘A’ Levels and some have shared the factors leading to their success with their juniors, one of which is the care and dedication shown by our teachers who are ever willing to go the extra mile to help our students achieve their aspirations. The college remains true to its vision to be ‘The choice college of leaders with passion and integrity’, and our staff is committed to doing its best to provide all students who choose to come to our college with a meaningful school experience that instils sound values and helps them perform well academically so that they can realise their aspirations.
The college has undergone many enhancements and improvement works this year including refurbishment of toilets, replacement of fans, and renovation of computer labs, much to the delight of staff and students. Some other renovation works include replacement of air-conditioners in the auditorium and lecture theatres, replacement of the sound system in the school hall, and replacement of all doors, lecture chairs and the running track. Repainting will to be completed by the first term in 2017 giving the college an elegant new look.
As the year comes to a close, I can’t help but feel an immense sense of gratitude at being posted to a junior college with dedicated teachers united in their efforts to equip students with the skills and competencies to thrive in the 21st century. We are proud of the tenacity and resilience shown by our students who are ever willing to take on tasks and challenges to improve themselves. We are also grateful to our many partners who provide our students with opportunities to enhance their cognitive and social skills. Most of all, I would like to thank our College Advisory Committee for their support and many contributions. I look forward to a bright year ahead as we welcome our new intake of JC1 students in 2017.
